El Salto March 2007

Wow! I really want to extend my thanks to everyone from Hook Adventure Travel and Angler's Inn. I had another great adventure and another great 10 pound bass. I caught the 10 pounder on a 6 inch zoom lizard watermelon with black flake. The fishing is always spectacular, but when you mix in the service and the accommodations it is, as Bear would say," Off the chain.". I'm looking forward to meeting everyone out there next year to do it again.

Shallow Water Cover Next To Deep Water Key To El Salto Success

Anglers working the shorelines have been catching lots of fish for the past couple of weeks here at El Salto Lake.

One of the primary keys to success has been finding cover in the shallows that has deeper water near by. El Salto bass, like largemouth anywhere, aren’t all over dumb. They may and do get into the shallows to feed, but the big ones that have been around for awhile recognize their need to have easy access to deep water escape routes.

Catches of Bigger Bass Picking Up At El Salto Lake

The action for big bass has picked up sharply at El Salto Lake over the past couple of weeks.

The water temperature and the air temperature are both warming up. So is the angling for trophy sized fish. In recent days we’ve recorded a number of fish running from 10 to more than 13-pounds. We’ve seen more big bass over the past two weeks than we’ve seen since our current season began.

The spawning season is nearing its end but some of the big females taken lately are still bulging with eggs. Lots of fish in the 5 to 7-pound range have already spawned.

El Salto February 2007

My friends and I scheduled our return trip to Lake El Salto this past February. We fished the lake February 23^rd through the 26^th. The first several days of fishing were not typical El Salto fishing days based on previous trips. Although we were able to catch decent numbers of fish it took hard work and down sizing of baits to entice the fish to bite. The fish we caught weren’t the typical El Salto quality fish. Despite the tough conditions we had two members of the group nail fish of ten pounds plus. The fish were spawned out and easily would have gone eleven to twelve pounds in the pre spawn condition.
