Steve, thank you so much for an amazing vacation. This was our third trip to El Salto, and have to say that the fishing was unreal !!! My wife Kim, caught her personal best, an 8.8 lb. monster with 7's, 6's, 5's, 4's. I landed a 10.2 tank with a 9.12, 8.8, 8.0, 7's and down the line. I also broke off 5 fish that I could not stop.
El Salto bass are without a doubt, the strongest bass around. Together we caught well over 500 fish in four and a half days of fishing and we are not exaggerating. This was one of the best fishing trips of my life.

Lake Mateos. What an amazing place. Bandmates Tim Tuttle, Mike Baca
and I, along with Tim’s brother Terry headed down to Lake Mateos in
mid-January to find out for ourselves what this place is all about. The
four of us are all veterans of Anglers Inn at El Salto with over twenty
trips between us.
What we found upon arrival was a beautiful new lodge in a tropical
jungle- like location. As usual Ramon and Joel were there to greet us
with Margarita’s and appetizers as our bags and tackle were whisked off
to our cabins. The new rooms at Mateos are very spacious and
well-appointed. The new amenities have been well thought out and we
couldn’t have been more comfortable or content. Being able to relax
outside at night with the river valley in full view was very special.
Anglers Inn at Mateos is a masterpiece in my opinion. Billy has done it
again. The lodge is very roomy and open with a great feel to it.

December at Lake El Salto |
El Salto Bucketmouths Biting! And Lots of Them!
Bass fishing at El Salto continues to be outstanding this month, thanks in part to Mother Nature. Unlike other south-of-the-border waters, El Salto hasn’t received heavy rainfall the past few weeks, so the water level has remained steady at normal pool, and the bass seem hungry all the time. There are tons of baitfish these lunkers could be eating, but they’re hitting lures instead, which creates a real bonanza for visiting anglers.

Lake Mateos Mexicos latest great bass lake |
“New” Lake Mateos is topwater heaven for bass angling
By BILL RICE
WON Staff Writer
CULIACAN, Mexico — If there’s a bass fishing heaven for surface plug bass fishing, we’ve found it at the “new” Lake Mateos. You may think the following is too good to be true, but it’s not!
Located about 25 miles east of Culiacan, Lake Mateos is actually not a “new” lake, but it is a reborn fishery that was all but dead in the 1980s and early 1990s when drought conditions and heavy agricultural water use decimated the lake and the bass fishing.
The past three years this coastal Mexico area has seen the best rains in over 50 years and the lake is again nearly at capacity. And the fishing is booming!
