ADDITIONAL INFO:
Bass fishing has really picked up during the last week. Several fish in the 10-12 pound range
Have been reported on Storm swim baits and deep diving cranks fished on points and underwater drop offs. Key in on schooling action and fish slowly for best results; most fish are suspended.
Joe Bullock and his wife, Paula, caught five fish between seven and 10.5 in one day. Most came on five inch swim baits fished slowly over 18-25 feet of water. White and white/ chartreuse are the hottest colors. Mike Folkestad reported several fish been seven and 11 pounds on DD-22 cranks fished along underwater ledges and main lake points.
Topwater action as been excellent at first light, mostly on shallow points bordering deep water.
Most of the fish are running 2-5 pounds. Senkos rigged wacky style have been producing plenty of hits in the same areas.
Overall, ‘Salto bass are settled into their summer patterns. You can fish shallow and run up the score with small bass. Anglers who target deeper water can expect the numbers to go down as the quality goes up. Les Melton targeted the larger bass in deeper water can ended up with 3 fish in the 11 pound range and one 10 pounder all on a DD22 deep diving crankbait. Richard Mort used the same technique but used 5” swimbaits and came in with 4 fish over 10 pounds. |
