Ed Martin and Mike Fuller, of Tacoma, WA, fished April 12-15. Here’s what Martin had to say: “We thank you for another great trip. We averaged 70 to 80 fish per day. My largest weighed 12-pounds, 14-ounces. On my next cast after we boated that one I caught another 10-pound, 11-ounce hawg. That’s more than 23-pounds of bass on just two casts! That’s El Salto at its best. Mike’s largest bass was a whopping 13-pounds, 4-ounces. He also had a 9-pounder. I caught my big one on a 10-inch Berkley watermelon colored Powerworm. Mike got his big one on a swim bait. We also had six 8-pounders, five 7-pounders and we lost count of smaller fish. Topwater fishing was a little slow. Our best lures were spinnerbaits along with plastic worms and lizards. We will see you again soon.”
Frank Stolarski also had comments about his April stay at Anglers Inn. Here’s what Frank said: “My wife asked me what I would consider the single best fishing trip of all those I’ve taken. I told her that my visit to El Salto would be the best by far! My partner landed an 8 ½--pounder and I came in with an 8-pounder on our last day. These were in addition to the other bass we caught on cast after cast. We also want to thank you for helping us plan our trip and your consideration while we were at El Salto. My problem now is to convince my wife I really need to return to Mexico. I’d give El Salto and Anglers Inn housing, guides, meals and service a five star rating. Even the weather was excellent.”
Frank Tabone, of Colleyville, Texas, boated a monster on a Rico Pop. His son, George, caught 11, 10 and 9-pounders and two 8-pounders in three days of fishing. The father and son team caught an estimated 215 fish during their stay. Another guest, Adam O’Reiley, of Martinez, CA, caught his largest bass ever on a watermelon lizard rigged Texas Style.
During this post spawn period at El Salto most bass are being caught on plastic lures. Watermelon is a top color. Excalibur Fat Free Shads and Storm Wild-eye Swim Shads have also been taking quality fish. Some anglers have been targeting suspended bass with both of these lures and hooking lots of 5 to 7-pounders. Soft plastic jerkbaits are good bets for both early morning and late afternoon fishing. |
