Additional Info

It’s been a tad colder than normal March weather with some clouds cover and the wind picking up in the mornings as well as the afternoons. Most anglers have been taking advantage of this by throwing deep diving crankbaits (DD22 and Fat Free Shad) in the Citrus color and landing some big bass. White ¾ ounce spinnerbaits with a willow / colorado blade combo also has been productive in the wind. The numbers bait has been the watermelon Senkos or Yum Dingers - throwing the bait early in the mornings and late in the evenings “wacky” style. David Fehrer landed a 10 pound bass on this method along with an 8 pounder and another 7. The best part of this story was that David was on a day trip with us. He and his partner landed 75 bass during the day. On another day trip, Dan and Jackie Berhow landed 50-60 bass in one day including the biggest bass of the report which weighed in at 12 pounds. Dan also landed an 11 pounder and an 8 on watermelon lizards. Steve and Julie Boon landed some great bass as well. Here’s what Steve Boon had to say, “Another great trip to El Salto, Julie and I cannot believe after 9 years of fishing at El Salto with Anglers Inn that every trip is another new adventure. Three big fish over eight (one of mine nudging nine) a couple of sevens and bunches and bunches of fish in the three to six pound range. Ninety percent of our fish came on senko style baits rigged "Wacky", Watermelon out caught all other colors. After years of filling out the trip end questionnaire, and being asked how many fish we caught we bought a handheld counter/ticker. In four days fishing we caught 360 bass. It's a tribute to El Salto as a fishery, and the excellent of "Anglers Inn" guides that Julie and I don't even take pictures of fish under 7 pounds anymore. Two days after we returned to Houston we booked our next trip to Anglers Inn for July this year, we are taking advantage of the 2 for 1 special in July that you are offering so that we can fish twice as long.” Our longtime friends from Mexico City, the Gonzalez family, landed some great bass on watermelon lizards. They ended up with several bass over 8 pounds. Anglers have been throwing Texas and Carolina rigs with 8” Zoom lizards off flats and humps in about 20-25 feet of water during the mid-day bite.
