Lake El Salto, the best trophy bass fishing in the world!!!

“El Salto weight Records Shattered!”

It’s difficult to come up with words that do justice to the fantastic bass fishing some Anglers Inn visitors experienced during the last two weeks of May.

Here’s just one example. Remember us telling you about the El Salto weight record California angler Joe Bullocks set some time ago? We figured it might be difficult to beat. Wrong! A soft-spoken gentleman from West Virginia didn’t just exceed the former record recently---he flat shattered it!

The fisherman is Les Melton, of Charleston, WV. Melton fished El Salto for seven days from May 23 through 29. The following statistics speak for themselves. Here’s what Melton, a regular visitor to Anglers Inn, accomplished in just six days of fishing.

Total number of bass caught (607)

Number of fish of 10-pounds or more (27)

Number of fish of 8-pounds or more (60)

Estimated number of fish of 7-pounds or more (100)

Total weight of 10 largest fish for six days (134.1-pounds)

Total weight of 5 largest fish for six days (71.5-pounds)

Total weight 10 largest fish for one day (118-pounds)

Total weight five largest fish for one day (66.8-pounds)

Countless anglers spend a lifetime fishing bass and never do manage to boat a 10-pounder. But Les Melton nailed 27 of ‘em at El Salto in just six days mostly on a Berkley 10-inch Powerworm in the black with blue tail color. Here’s a run down of the size of those 27 slab sided brutes that topped 10-pounds: 15; 15; 14.07; 14; 13.08; 13.04; 12.12; 12.12; 11.14; 11.08; 11.08; 11.02; 11; 10.10; 10.08; 10.08; 10.08; 10.08; 10.06; 10.06; 10.05; 10.04; 10.02; 10.02; 10; 10 and 10.

As we said in the beginning, it’s difficult to adequately describe that kind of bass fishing success. It’s mind boggling, but it’s for real. And keep in mind that every one of those beautiful fish Les Melton caught went back in the water as soon as it was weighed.

They’re still here. So are we and we’re looking forward to showing you where they hang out. Have you caught your first 10-pounder yet? Still have some space open the end of June for you to experience some of this fantastic fishing action.

Les Melton wasn’t the only angler who had super success recently. “My partner and I got 340 fish in just three days,” says Dave Burkhardt, of the Triple Fish Line Company. “The fish included my personal best topwater bass of 10.5-pounds. On the morning of May 23 Larry Larsen and I caught 70 bass on topwater lures before 9 a.m. Those we caught included fish of 10.5-pounds and 9.75-pounds. It was a magnificent morning. The fish completely destroyed a Magnum Zara Spook.”

Steve Chung and Cathy Martinez, of San Francisco, had a similar experience. They boated eight bass over the 10-pound mark during their 3-day stay at Anglers Inn. Steve’s largest bass weighed 13-pounds. It grabbed a 6-inch Senko in a watermelon color. Most of their fish were caught on Senkos and 5-inch swimbaits.

Mo Guenther, of Mission Viejo, CA, also had a beautiful bass. He boated a 12-pounder while fishing close to the bank in the early morning. Mo’s fish was also caught on a Senko.

Babe Winkelman, the host of the “Good Fishing” television series, also experienced some terrific action during his recent El Salto trip. Babe boated bass of 12 and 11-pounds along with three 10-pounders. The catching of every darn one of those fish was recorded on film. As a result Babe might just have the best big bass TV show ever shot at El Salto. He caught most of his fish on a 10-inch tequila sunrise colored worm rigged Texas Style.
