“Unbelievable!”
That’s what Bob Simmons and Kirk Prouse, of California, had to say about their recent trip to El Salto Lake. “I think this was my seventh trip,” Bob says, “and it was the best yet where numbers are concerned. On Saturday morning one honey hole produced 32 fish between 5 and 10-pounds on swimbaits, ¾-ounce spinnerbaits and my special jig. Our best swimbaits were 5-inchers in shad and golden mullet colors. We used ¾-ounce double bladed willowleaf spinnerbaits with a white skirt.
“In the afternoon we went to the schoolhouse area and caught 39 fish between 6-pounds and 11-pounds, 9-ounces. We had more than 500-pounds of bass in one day and that doesn’t count the ones between 2 and 5-pounds. We had two over 11-pounds and seven between 10 and 11-pounds. I’m still sore!
“We found the bite was slowly changing to the deeper trees. The jig was especially effective on calm days. We also caught a 9-pound, 2-ounce bass on a white buzzbait about 9 a.m. We also lost a couple of big fish on bone colored Pop R surface baits. Even with 30-pound braid, the bass got both of those lures!
“The fish are moving to deep water ledges, holes and creek channels. I want to thank you for setting us up with the guide I requested and the great room. My guests had the best vacation ever! It was absolutely a 5-Star fishing trip. When can we come back?”
Jimmy Murata, of Tokyo, Japan, boated some great bass on a ¾-ounce spinnerbait. He wound up with a pair of 10-pounders and several in the 8 to 9-pound range. Slow rolling spinnerbaits in deeper water has been an extremely effective technique lately.
Al and Burnis Viles, of Scottsdale, Arizona, took advantage of our special Anglers Inn “Couples Package.” They also had some super bass fishing. “We want to thank you for a wonderful trip,” Al says. “Burnis and I had a great time thanks to the efforts of your entire staff.” Burnis landed the couple’s biggest bass. It was a 10-pound, 8-ounce beauty she caught on a Storm WildEye Swim Shad. Al also had some large bass on the same bait.
Roy Dilsaver and Kenny Gaskell, of Brighten, Colorado, were among a group of eight recent El Salto Lake visitors. “Everyone in our group,” they say, “had the three best days of bass fishing imaginable. Our largest fish was a 10-pound, 3-ouncer caught on a 5-inch Senko. We also had several bass close to 10-pounds. Many of them were caught on topwater lures and that doubles the pleasure! One morning we had 55-pounds in just seven fish---all on topwater. How could it get any better! All of us want to thank you and your staff for an incredible three days of fishing, comradery and service.” |
