Here’s what James said about the fishing. “The best action was mostly in the morning and late evening. Yum Dingers, both 5 and 7-inch sizes in any color, white buzzbaits and Lucky Craft Sammys produced best in the mornings. Swim baits like the Yum Sweet Cheeks or the Storm WildEye Swim Shads along with Texas rigged Berkley Power Worms worked best in the afternoons. Most fish were caught in shallow flooded grass or off points. We boated more fish than we could count between 3 and 6-pounds. The largest bass caught weighed in at a little over 7-pounds.” Joe Bullock, of California, another participant in the Anglers Inn Monster Bass Tournament, came in second with a total weight of 120-pounds. Joe caught most of his big bass on a Reaction bait called the Vixen. Walking the Vixen slowly off the bank has been producing some great bass. Fishing a half-ounce spinnerbait off shallow points and grassy banks has also been very successful. Miguel Gonzalez landed the biggest bass of the period with a dandy that weighed 11-pounds. He caught it on a watermelon lizard off a flat in 20-feet of water.
Young Dillon Kohler, of California, also boated a beauty on a recent El Salto Lake visit. Dillon caught his big fish on a medium diving Bomber Fat Free Shad in a citrus color. Dillon’s father, David, took advantage of our new “Father and Son” special that runs through December 31. The youngster got a gift he’ll remember for a lifetime when he caught his El Salto Lake whopper. If you’re headed this way, be sure to bring plenty of soft plastic jerkbaits in a watermelon color. Anglers fishing El Salto recently have been using a bunch of them. |
