New Year Off To Great Start!

No one is more qualified to comment on El Salto Lake fishing than Les Melton.  And few fishermen have put more big bass in the boat as a result of repeated visits than this distinguished West Virginia gentleman.  He just wound up his 25th trip to Anglers Inn.  It pleases us to share what he had to say about it.

“As usual” Melton says, “I had a great trip to Anglers Inn.  The El Salto fishing was outstanding.  I caught a total of 491 bass during the six days I was there.  I caught and released 42 7-pounders, 10 8-pounders, four 9-pounders and one 10-pounder.

“Most of my fish were caught on black and blue or red shad 10-inch Power Worms; a Fat Free Shad in a citrus color and varied colored Senkos rigged wacky style.  I had numerous 4 to 6-pound fish and the action was constant the entire time.

“This was my 25th trip to El Salto and still I am amazed.  Each trip produces its own memories and this last one was no exception.  There is simply no other place like Anglers Inn and El Salto Lake.  There are no superlatives that do the place justice.  As is always the case, the service was G-R-E-A-T!  What more could a fisherman ask for than great fishing, great food, a wonderful facility, all the amenities and most of all---great friends.  I will be returning in May and I am already eagerly anticipating the trip.”

That Melton plans to come back to Anglers Inn in May doesn’t surprise us.  When he was here in May last year he wound up catching 27 bass of 10-pounds or more in just six days.  Two of those 27 whoppers were 15-pounders.  Melton’s ability to boat big bass is consistent.  Last October he won the first ever Anglers Inn Monster Bass Tournament.  He also holds the current heaviest five bass weight limit at 71-pounds.  Nice going, Les.  We’re proud of you!

Grant and Kent Hall, of Arizona, were among the other anglers who visited Anglers Inn in early January.  They also had a super trip.  “With the help of our great guide,” Ken says, “we caught more than 250 bass in four days.  My dad is 82-years-young, but he says our Anglers Inn visit was the trip of a lifetime.  Our largest bass weighed 11-pounds, 8-ounces.”

Mike Forst landed this 11.5 pounder which was 24.25 inches long and the girth was 19.5 inches. This fish was caught in 20 ft of water on a 10” Berkley Power Worm, red shad color, Carolina rigged.

Clem Henderson and wife had the following to say about their recent trip. “Thank you for another memorable fishing trip. Anglers Inn is the only fishing lake in Mexico that offers both the greatest bass fishing on the planet and the kind of accommodations that make bringing your wife a pleasure. My wife, Charlie, had the fishing trip of a lifetime. She caught several fish over 8 pounds including one 10.2 lb and a 12.0 lb lunker. Unbelievably, she caught the 12lb fish Texas rigging a bubble gum Yamamoto senko with the tail dipped in garlic chartreuse dye. The dye caused the senko to be bubble gum and neon orange. I caught a 10.5lb fish Texas rigging a Reaction Innovation Doublewide Beaver in Watermelon/Red. Several other fish between 7lbs and 9.5lbs were caught on Carolina rigging watermelon 8” lizards and 5” senkos.”
