Attention Couples!

Got a female companion who loves to fish for bass? Want to get both her and you into the El Salto Lake record books? Here’s your chance to do it. We’ll be staging our Anglers Inn Monster Bass Tournament in February. This one is for couples only. If you’re interested, by all means let us know as soon as possible. The tournament will be limited to four couples. It will be staged along the same lines at the first AIMBT held last year. You’ll recall Less Melton, of West Virginia, won that one with 122-pounds of bass in just four days of competition. Give us a call for complete details---but don’t delay! The contest is only a few weeks away and the first pair of contestants has already been selected.

Fluctuating Water Levels Continue To Plague El Salto Lake Anglers

As you know Jim Sleight and myself hosted a group of 22 of our friends to Anglers Inn this past week November 25, to December 1, 2006. The group was comprised of mostly tournament bass fisherman from San Diego, however we had a few guy's from across the country with us from as far away as Chattanooga Tennessee. Our good friend and repeat Anglers Inn customer Bob Brower came from Chattanooga and fished six straight day's and was rewarded with the biggest bass of the week for our group a 9.8 pound beauty coming on a Rapala X-Rap late in the day on his final day of fishing.

Drenching Rains Make For Unusual Fishing Conditions At El Salto Lake

What an unusual fall season this has been at El Salto Lake!

After having reached record lows last summer, the lake has risen so fast it has been pouring over its spillway some of the time recently. That comes about as a result of the drenching storms that have hit this part of the world in recent weeks.

The rapid rise and fall of El Salto water level has, of course, had its affect where fishing is concerned. The water has been way up in the trees some of the time lately. When that happens there are literally millions of shad and tilapia baitfish back up in the shallows. As usual, bass follow these baitfish schools. Anglers successful in finding these schools of baitfish have been having a ball. But the continuous water level fluctuation has also made things difficult at times.

October El Salto Action Hot For Both Fly Rodders & Plug Pitchers

Recent Anglers Inn visitors have been using both fly rods and casting gear to clobber El Salto Lake bass.  The lake is at full pool and the action has been fast and furious.  Here’s what just a few of our early October guests have had to say.

Gary Jacob and Doug Smith visited Anglers Inn in early October.  Gary tells us: “Doug Smith and I were down last week.  We just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much we enjoyed it.  We caught a tremendous amount of fish, the food was just fantastic and the staff was the best.  You guys deserve a lot of credit for what you have accomplished.  Your staff really enjoys their work and talking with them shows they all have a lot of respect for you and your dad.  You should really be proud.  The place is great and well worth every penny.  We've already booked a trip for a party of six in May.  I wanted to come back in February.

Great Surface Fishing Features Final Part Of El Salto Season

Joe Thomas, BASS Elite Series angler and television host, was a recent guest to Anglers Inn.  Joe has fished El Salto before.  Here’s what he has to say about his recent trip: “This year my trip to Anglers Inn was special not only for the incredible fishing, but because I had a chance to bring my Dad and brothers, Tim and Doug, along for the trip. After having fished in the Elite Series since March, it might seem a little strange that I’d actually want to go fishing on one of my rare off weeks, but this is Lake El Salto, and I’ll never pass up an opportunity to be there!

“Our fishing started off great, as usual. I spent the first day with my dad and we worked submerged trees in 8 to 10-feet of water and instantly found that the fish were suspended around the brush.  Early on they would come up and smash my Lucky Craft Gunfish top water bait.  As the sun rose we started pitching Arkie jigs (black with blue power chunk trailers), 10-inch Power Worms (black-blue and tequila sunrise colors seemed to work best) and had a field day.  My hands were literally raw from lipping fish.  And you know you’ve caught some good ones when the teeth marks are way down on your palm by the base of your thumb!
