Larger Bass Showing Up More Often

As Spawning Season Begins It has been another great two weeks at El Salto Lake.  The spawning season is in full swing. Some bass are being caught in deeper water, but the most are on the nest.  Senko fishing has produced lots of fish.  Anglers have been rigging both Wacky and Texas Style.  Fishing these rigs in the trees and off points has been successful.  The best action at mid-day has been coming by fishing a little deeper.  Watermelon colored lizards and 10-inch worms in a junebug color have been especially effective.

Thirteen Pounder Tops Late January Report

Bob Owen boated the biggest bass in the last two weeks of January fishing. Bob’s beauty weighed 13-pounds. It smacked a 10-inch Berkley Power Worm in a junebug color.

Eight-inch Zoom watermelon lizards have been good early morning and late evening baits lately. During mid-day larger bass have been hitting the junebug color. Bigger bass are coming off deep points and creek channels where they are preparing to spawn. Bob’s 13-pounder was in 15-feet of water and loaded with eggs. Note the picture. Here’s what some of our other guests had to say about their recent visit to Anglers Inn at El Salto Lake.

New Year Off To Great Start!

No one is more qualified to comment on El Salto Lake fishing than Les Melton.  And few fishermen have put more big bass in the boat as a result of repeated visits than this distinguished West Virginia gentleman.  He just wound up his 25th trip to Anglers Inn.  It pleases us to share what he had to say about it.

“As usual” Melton says, “I had a great trip to Anglers Inn.  The El Salto fishing was outstanding.  I caught a total of 491 bass during the six days I was there.  I caught and released 42 7-pounders, 10 8-pounders, four 9-pounders and one 10-pounder.

Happy New Year!
It’s a brand New Year and the bass are still biting at El Salto Lake!

Recently most bass have moved into the shallows.  Some of the best catches have been made close to the shoreline.  The topwater bite is still good, but lately soft jerkbaits have been even better.  Yum Dingers, Kinami Flashes and Yamamoto Senkos in a watermelon color have been producing numbers of fish.  Rigging these baits wacky style and fishing them tight to the bank has been especially effective.  Submerged trees are also a good bet.
