Fly Fishing Tackle For Lake El Salto |
| Rods- 8 to 9 weight (Bring 3 if possible, which gives you a spare) | | Reels- Tibor, Pate, Able – basically any good reel that accommodates 8 or 9 weight lines, again, bring three if possible – two loaded with floating line and one with sinking. | | Lines- Weight forward floating 8 or 9 wt. Ex: Rio Clouser Tropic Sinking Line in 8 or 9 wt. – Scientific Anglers Uniform Sink type III is a good one (you can fish this similar to the conventional tackle guys fish a plastic worm as well as a variety of other options) | | Leaders- 9’ fluorocarbon, 20 lb test (you can always trim back a little) | | Tippet- Don’t use it! Bring plenty of leaders and go with a “Loop to Loop” connection to your butt section and change out daily or whenever frayed. This eliminates one extra knot that could cause you that trophy fish! | | Flies- Poppers, Bunny Patterns in olive or black are excellent, streamers such as “Whitlocks Swimming Baitfish” and “Shinabou Shiners”, also Dahlberg Divers or other baitfish imitations. | | Obviously- Nippers, pliers, extra butt section, leatherman, sunscreen and appropriate clothing. | | Note- Bring more flies and leaders than you think you’ll need. There is NO local option. | | Also- plan to catch more fish than the guys with conventional tackle. As to size – don’t think you’ll be looking at smaller fish because you’re fishing with a flyrod, it’s simply not true. You can and should land trophy size fish on this lake with a flyrod. There anr not too many places in the world where you can have the chance to hook up a 10 lb + Largemouth Bass everyday. | | Good bet for supplies – Durangler’s Flies and Supplies 1-970-385-4081. Tell them where you’re going and they’ll know what you need; |
